Omaha’s proximity to Offutt A.F.B. makes it a logical location for military families to put down roots. As US Air Force personnel return home from their assignments all over the globe, they must make a lot of decisions on where to raise a family for the long haul. The Omaha area should definitely be considered.

The people of Omaha do a nice job of mixing city life with the casual rural lifestyle. There’s a down home feeling among the residents of Omaha, probably because of its roots in the farm culture. The corn fields on the outskirts of town are not so distant that the people have forgotten their roots (or their manners).

With rural lifestyles so close at hand, one is never too far from the beauty of the outdoors. It is a short drive (in fact, a short walk, depending on where you choose to live) to the awesome Missouri River, where you’ll find three seasons (at least) worth of fun. Boating on the river is popular, especially for those of us who like to fish for some channel catfish every now and then. But water sports are also popular on the river, and you’ll find water skiers out all summer long.

If you’re stationed at Offutt, you probably already know that Bellevue is the home of the base. But there are other neighborhoods around the City that are close to Offutt, and they are good choices for school districts as well as homes.
